Some Kind of Monster is a documentary about Metallica. The name of the film was taken from the song of the same name from the album St. Anger What started as an ordinary documentary about the creation of St. Anger has grown into a much deeper study of the relationship between the band members and their creative process. The film shows a lot of studio rehearsals and fragments of concert performances. The film won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary Project.

Subsequently, Metallica musicians expressed regret over the idea of releasing this film.
